Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business

With 25+ years in accounting, a degree from BYU–Idaho, and Enrolled Agent credentials, I’ve helped hundreds of business owners clean up their books, save thousands in taxes, and plan for real growth. But Blue Heart Accounting is about more than numbers, it’s about people. So here's who I am as a person: I’m a wife, mom of four, and lover of both paddleboarding and snowboarding. Balancing is kinda my thing (boards, spreadsheets, family life). If you’re ready for a tax pro who brings clarity, strategy, and a little fun to the table, let’s talk.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

25+ years in accounting, a degree from BYU–Idaho, and Enrolled Agent

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

I can't explain it except that I felt called to it.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Definitely not

Take us back to when you first launched your business; what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

Developed my brand and website and started direct messaging potential clients on Instagram.  It has gone surprisingly well so far.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?

Not getting sick from the roller coaster of entrepreneurship.

What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?

The best decision I've made was hiring my first employee.

Do you have any recent wins from the last year that you'd like to celebrate with our community?

Helping clients save thousands in taxes feels amazing.  Helping people make smarter financial decisions always feels amazing. 

What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

I want to continue to dial in my service offerings and build a strong, capable team that is empowered. 

What is your top productivity tip? 

My diet soda helps A LOT!  Slow down to speed up.

On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?

Make sure that I fill my day/week with the parts of the business that lights me up.

What is your approach to work-life balance / integration?

This could also be one of my best wins.  I have shifted my mindset over the past few years to allow for more work life integration instead of separation.

When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?

What did you love about your last job?  What keeps you up at night?  What do you hope to love about your new job?  Which parts of your last job were the worst?  If you could pick one job/task to never do again, what would it be?

Are you a Mamaprenista? If so, please share your best advice for simultaneously managing a business and a family

I am!  But my kids are getting older so it has gotten WAY easier. 

Do you have a co-founder? If so, how did you find the right one for you and what are your best partnership tips?

My first employee started the business with me and feels every bit like a co-founder.  We've worked together off and on for the past 5 years and we work SO well together.

What's the one app on your phone you absolutely cannot live without and why?

Messages or Google Chrome

What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?

I am really happy with TaxDome as my Practice Management Solution and I am so pleased with it.  ChatGPT is quickly becoming a vital tool.
