Akshie Shah

Founder

I’m Akshie Jhaveri Shah, the founder of Grown Brilliance, a third-generation jeweler deeply rooted in the world of diamonds and gemstones. Born and raised in Mumbai, I earned my Bachelor of Business degree from Sydenham College and later continued my studies at the University of Arizona. After my father’s passing, I joined his business, refining my skills by learning from talented local artisans. Growing up in a male-dominated society posed challenges in proving my abilities, which motivated me to pursue formal education in Jewelry Design and Diamond Grading at GIA in Carlsbad, CA. At the age of 22, I was offered a position with the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart, where I demonstrated my capabilities and earned promotions each year, ultimately resigning as the Director of Global Sourcing - Fine Jewelry after five years with the company. These diverse experiences led me to launch Grown Brilliance in New York, with a mission to provide 100% conflict-free, lab-grown diamonds that represent exceptional quality, timeless beauty, and conscious living. As a minority female founder leading a company that is 75% female, I am dedicated to expanding the horizons of sustainability, creativity, and female empowerment.

Alice James

Founder

I spent the first 11 years of my career in the corporate retail industry in roles such as buying, inventory planning, product development, global sourcing and production management. In 2016 I’d hit the glass ceiling when my boss told me I’d never be promoted because I was a mom (illegal, I know) so I decided to leave the large retail world and take a chance on myself. With a mix of fear and excitement, I started consulting out of my daughter’s bedroom. I helped smaller fashion brands to launch and grow with my years of experience and certified network of global suppliers. In 8+ years we’ve grown into a full all-female agency that has empowered hundreds of fashion brands across the nation. I'm a passionate advocate for small businesses founded by women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ founders. I’m a small business mentor for RAISEfashion, REI Path Ahead Ventures, and Founded Outdoors and may just get more out of it than my mentees.

Her efforts led to beautification projects and the opening of a local gym. She later joined the Toronto Community Housing Board, serving on the Building Investment, Finance & Audit Committee (BIFAC) and Tenant Services Committee, advocating for policy changes to improve residents’ quality of life. Amanda’s dedication to systemic change led her to run for City Councillor in Humber River-Black Creek, placing fifth in 2012 and third in 2022. Ana Gonzalez Herrera

Founder

Ana dedicated 17 years of her life to the corporate world, leading and growing Beauty and Wellness brands worldwide. In the meantime, she was silently battling Stage IV Endometriosis and went through six surgeries, infertility and surgical menopause. She experienced first-hand how women’s hormonal health isn’t always taken seriously and the complete lack of education in this area. After the last, and most invasive of a series of surgeries, she started her entrepreneurial journey, to fulfill her vision of rethinking the women’s hormonal wellness space with products and education. She launched Glow by Hormone University, an innovative product line to help achieve hormonal balance by targeting symptoms, not age.  She also built and launched Hormone University, the first educational platform focused on hormonal health, aiming to not only raise awareness but also empower women to take control over their hormonal health. Ana is an ardent advocate for fostering unity to combat the stigma surrounding hormonal health. Ana's vision is to empower others with the knowledge and products necessary to take charge of their hormones, rather than allowing hormones to dictate their lives.

Leslie Tessler

Founder

Leslie Tessler founded Hanni with a mission to redefine bodycare—making it effortless, effective, and indulgent. With over a decade as a beauty industry executive, Leslie was deeply immersed in product development, trends, and the fast-paced nature of the industry. However, after years of burnout, she took what was meant to be a short sabbatical, which turned into an 11-year journey of self-discovery in Argentina. During this time, Leslie realized she had been neglecting bodycare—noticing that her skin often felt dry, scaly, and sensitive. The products she tried were either too complicated, too sticky, or simply forgettable. She longed for bodycare that felt as luxurious and results-driven as skincare, but without adding time or effort to her routine.  Inspired by this gap in the market, she created Hanni, named after her youngest daughter, Hannah. The brand launched with a fresh approach to bodycare—prioritizing simplicity, nourishment, and high-performance formulas that transform the skin with minimal effort. Leslie’s philosophy is simple: caring for your body should feel less like a chore and more like a treat. With a focus on innovative formulas and sustainable packaging, she continues to lead Hanni toward a future where bodycare is as essential—and enjoyable—as skincare.
