Klodiana Malellari is the founding attorney of Malellari Law, where she helps founders and small business owners protect the brands they have built. A licensed attorney in Minnesota and Missouri, she holds a Juris Doctor from New York Law School and two master's degrees from Montclair State University in law and governance and in intellectual property. A member of the Entreprenista League, she came to entrepreneurship from inside an established practice and decided to do it on her own terms.

A foundation of credentials and service

Klodiana's path to her own firm runs through a deep bench of training and public service. Alongside her Juris Doctor and her two master's degrees, she earned a bachelor's in jurisprudence and political science.

Her professional affiliations span the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Missouri State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the New York Women's Bar Association. She also serves as a councilwoman in River Edge, New Jersey, where she sits on the library board, the environmental protection committee, the legal review committee, and the finance committee, among others.

Why she took the leap

Klodiana did not always plan to be an entrepreneur. Before Malellari Law, she worked as a personal injury attorney for an established firm.

What pulled her out was the need to leave the 9-to-4 behind and to take ownership over her time, with her kids and her life. The firm became the way to claim both.

Building from zero

The accomplishment Klodiana is proudest of is the firm itself. She built it with no big name behind her and no clients handed down, proving along the way that it works.

"Every founder who trusts me with their brand, every refusal we've overcome, every registration secured, those are wins I built with my own hands," she says. "The firm itself is the accomplishment. Everything else flows from it."

"Everything that's made my business work, I learned by doing, not preparing," she says. "The confidence comes after you start, not before."
