Lina Kennedy Built the Global Standard for Professional Sugaring

Lina Kennedy is the founder, president, and CEO of Alexandria Professional, an internationally recognized beauty and education company she built into a global authority on professional sugaring and skin health. Known across the industry as the Sugar Queen, she developed the Kennedy Theory and the Kennedy Technique Theory, educational systems that helped set professional sugaring standards worldwide and have trained thousands of practitioners. A member of the Entreprenista League, Lina has spent more than three decades turning a hands-on craft into a body of teachable, repeatable method. The story of how she did it starts with a single decision to bet on herself.

"There are no right or wrong answers. Becoming aware through your personal transparency will put you where you wish to be. You cannot un-know your personal truth," Lina says.

The leap that started with a car accident

Lina knew early what she wanted. As a teenager she said out loud that she would become a millionaire. Her grandmother advised her to marry one. Her aunt told her to make her own. She chose to make her own, even when the first option was available to her.

What finally moved her was not a business plan. It was a serious car accident and a prayer offered with an open mind. She came from what she calls the school of hard knocks, and she carried an entrepreneurial drive that had been waiting for a direction. Sugaring gave it one.

She built the company as its sole founder. The journey was not smooth, and she weathered it alone by choice. "I don't know a single soul who would have allowed themselves to go through what I did," she says. She also raised her son and later her two daughters as a solo parent while the business grew. One memory stays with her. Her daughters had a recital while she was away at a trade show, and she looked at her team, decided they had it handled, and booked a flight home in time to watch from the audience. The team was proud she trusted them. The girls were thrilled she made it.

Writing the standard the industry now uses

The accomplishment Lina takes most seriously is that professional sugaring and the Kennedy Theory are now established in the pro-beauty industry worldwide. That did not happen by accident, and the proof shows up in the institutions that adopted her work.

Milady Publishing Company asked Alexandria Professional to contribute sugaring education to its latest aesthetics textbook and to provide foundational videoed training, material now available to beauty schools across the country. On Milady's recommendation, the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology invited the company onto the committee responsible for establishing state board exams in hair removal. A technique she once performed in a borrowed room is now part of how the next generation gets licensed.

More than hair removal

Lina is quick to say her work was never only about removing hair. She believes healthy skin is the foundation of confidence, and she built an education program around that conviction.

Her team developed the Full Circle of Skin Conditioning program, a Permanent Hair Reduction program, Minute Packages designed to control hormonal facial hair growth, and the new Bookend Theory, which combines laser or IPL with sugaring in a single treatment. Each one extends the same idea: that a client sitting down for hair removal is really beginning a longer skin health journey.

Advice from the Sugar Queen, and what comes next

Lina's advice for aspiring founders is rooted in honesty rather than tactics. Money sits at the top of most lists of reasons to start a business, alongside independence and creativity. For her, none of it works without passion underneath. "Only you can define your reasons, your purpose," she says. "It's when you work against it that you risk running into more challenging situations."

This past year brought fresh recognition. Lina was nominated for and won the female manufacturing award for Western New York, an acknowledgment of decades spent making products in Buffalo. Next comes a new ingrown hair serum built around skin health, the same throughline that has guided every program she has created.
