Meha Agrawal of Silk + Sonder on Building a VC Backed Personal Growth Company

Meha Agrawal is the Founder and CEO of Silk + Sonder, a VC backed personal growth company helping busy women live more intentional, fulfilling lives in just five minutes a day. What began as a nights and weekends project has grown into a multimillion dollar business serving members in all 50 states through guided journaling, emotional health tracking, coaching, and community grounded in positive psychology and behavior change science.

With a background as a software engineer and product manager at Goldman Sachs, Stitch Fix, and The Muse, Meha combines systems thinking with human behavior insights to build tools that support growth without burnout. As a mamaprenista, she is deeply committed to building a legacy that shows her daughter what is possible.

Please share a brief introduction and your business:

I’m the Founder & CEO of Silk + Sonder, a VC-backed personal growth company helping people live more intentional, fulfilling lives in just five minutes a day. We combine guided journaling, emotional health tracking, 24/7 coaching, and community- grounded in research from therapy techniques, positive psychology, and behavior change science.

Before Silk + Sonder, I worked as a software engineer and product manager at Goldman Sachs, Stitch Fix, and The Muse, where I developed a deep appreciation for systems, human behavior, and how small, thoughtful habits can create meaningful change.

Silk + Sonder started as a nights-and-weekends project I built for myself before realizing how many others were craving the same kind of structure, reflection, and support. Today, the company generates millions in annual revenue, serves members in all 50 states, has earned thousands of five-star reviews, and is helping address the loneliness epidemic by creating tools for connection, belonging, and emotional wellbeing.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband and daughter, spend a lot of time in New York City, and am deeply committed to building tools that help people grow without burning out. In my “free time”, I speak and host immersive workshops for companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, PWC, Uber, and more to help prevent burnout and encourage more work-life integration. I’m also in the process of launching a podcast, writing a book, and starting a mastermind for those who want to integrate personal growth modalities into their day-to-day at work and at home.

Are you a mamaprenista?

I am! The best tip is to remember that you’re building your legacy and empire so that your kids can dream and believe it’s possible. I’m the first in my lineage to truly get to choose my path despite the working women who came before me and I remember that it’s a privilege and a responsibility for my daughter to believe she can be anything she wants to be.

Take us back to when you launched? What was your marketing strategy?

I was very scrappy and promised myself that I would give myself ~2 weeks to launch the product and make at least one sale. I posted on my personal and professional networks to try and get the word out there and borrowed my friends who worked at Facebook’s $250/mo ad budget to run ads. Before I knew it, women all across the country were buying Silk + Sonder and bloggers were organically posting about it.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Not really - growing up, I was told that I could be a doctor, lawyer, academic or engineer - that those were the true markers of success. I only became exposed to the world of entrepreneurship when I joined The Muse as their third engineer and 8th employee. That was a true turning point and I started dabbling in “side projects” until I eventually quit my job and went full time on Silk + Sonder.

What accomplishments are you the most proud of to date in your business?

I’m most proud of building not just a world-class product and experience, but an incredible, uplifting, and supportive community. I may be the creator and leader of Sonder Club, but the members of the Sonder Fam are absolutely incredible. Their positivity, wit, and curiosity is infectious and it’s so rewarding to watch them thrive amidst life’s ups and downs.

When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?

Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond in your role. If someone is not able to pinpoint an example of how they did something that extended beyond what was expected of them, it’s a signal for me that they don’t have enough of an “owner mindset” as what we expect at Silk + Sonder.

What did you do before starting your own business?

Software Engineer and Product Manager for Goldman Sachs, Stitch Fix, The Muse, Fueled.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

I had grown the business as a nights and weekends project to ~1000 paying customers making ~$15K/mo. I remember fulfilling orders and seeing the addresses in states I had never been to and that is when I realized I was building something much bigger than myself. I wanted to deliver on my promise for personalizing daily self-care and knew I’d need a team and more time to execute on that vision so I decided to go full time.

Do you have any recent wins?

We’ve really expanded our Sonder Coach offering by leveraging generative AI to help personalize the personal growth journey. We integrate data from multiple personality assessments and mindset frameworks to help create custom plans for people to achieve their most audacious goals in a way that is naturally motivating and empowering for them. On top of that, we offer shortcuts to self-discovery exercises and masterclasses so people can dive deep on their personal growth journeys without feeling overwhelmed in the process.

What's one app on your phone that you cannot live without?

Apart from my Silk + Sonder app (which I scroll through Sonder Club for my dose of positivity every day), I’d have to say “Activations.” I’ve been loving the cinematic music to help me step into a positive headspace and attract great things for the day.

Who are your customers?

Busy women 25-65 who want to feel more organized / energized day-to-day.

What's your top productivity tip?

I use the 3-3-3 method. 3 hours on my “main” task, 3 “short tasks”, and 3 “maintenance tasks”. This helps me knock out the little and big things every day.

What's your favorite business tool?

Superhuman Mail - I love using command shortcuts when managing my email even though I’m still not an Inbox Zero person.

What's your approach to work-life balance?

I don’t believe in work-life balance, I believe in work-life harmony. Now that I’m also a mom, I make it a point to be fully present whether I’m at work or home. Furthermore, I bring my 100% authentic self wherever I am and I’m not afraid to bring personal things to work and vice versa. This makes me unapologetic in chasing my dreams without worrying about hard cut off times / places.

How do you avoid burn-out?

Burnout happens when you don’t manage your time and energy well. I make a concerted effort to design my schedule, my days, and my activities in a way that is energy gaining for me, as much as possible. I also pencil in ample time for rest and recovery so I can recharge my creative juices.

What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?

The only way to overcome fear is action itself. When you find yourself operating at the edge of your comfort zone, see it as a sign that you’re on the verge of greatness. Take a step - no matter how big or small because everything you want is on the other side. I have to remind myself of this all the time through the different seasons of entrepreneurship.

Meha Agrawal built Silk + Sonder with scrappiness, speed, and conviction. She gave herself two weeks to launch and make a single sale. Instead, women across the country began purchasing and organically sharing the product. That early momentum proved she was solving a real need.

Today, Silk + Sonder continues to expand through AI powered personalization and a thriving member community. Meha’s advice for aspiring Entreprenistas is simple but powerful: action is the antidote to fear. When you find yourself at the edge of your comfort zone, take the step anyway. Everything you want is on the other side.
