Stephanie Hughes Made ToolKit Unlocked the Playbook She Needed

The former operating room nurse spent 25 years collecting tools for personal transformation, then built the system that tells you which one to use and when.

“People had been telling me for years that I should be a coach or a speaker. I knew it was true, but I never wanted to be perceived as anyone’s guru. I hated the term coach, so I resisted it,” Stephanie Hughes says. She kept trying to come up with an idea that was not coaching. The answer had been sitting in front of her for 25 years.

Stephanie Hughes is the founder of ToolKit Unlocked, a step-by-step system of the most impactful tools for personal transformation. She spent over a decade as an operating room nurse, and she is a member of the Entreprenista League. Her first course, The Identity Reset, is about to launch.

Her path from the operating room to ToolKit Unlocked came down to one thing she had to stop avoiding.

Two problems she kept running into

Stephanie has studied personal development for 25 years, and along the way she watched the same 2 failures repeat themsselves. The first is the gap between inspiration and action. “You come away from every book, podcast and seminar thinking, ‘Great! What do I actually do?’” she says.

The second is allegiance. Every methodology asked her to buy into its worldview while discounting everyone else’s. ToolKit Unlocked answers both, with a sequenced path that tells you what to do, when to do it, and why. “It’s loyal to what works,” she says.

Over a decade in the operating room

Her working life did not run in a straight line. She was a mortgage broker until the 2007 financial crisis closed that chapter. She spent a few years at home with her youngest daughter, and then became an RN, staying more than 10 years in the operating room as a circulator and scrub nurse.

She knew the whole time where she was headed. “I’m not wired to be an employee,” she says. “I’m keenly aware of the flaws in our systems, and I was vocal about fixing them." She describes feeling like a cog in a machine with a target on her back for speaking up.

Coming back into alignment

The idea that became ToolKit Unlocked arrived once she stopped hunting for it. She was unhappy in her job; she had drifted away from her own tools, and her energy was off. Once she came back into alignment, it was obvious.

“It literally came to me out of nowhere. I knew exactly what I was meant to do. The answer had been there all along,” she says. But she had to face her resistance to the word "coach." It was really a fear of judgment. “I wasn’t going to let that stop me from helping the people I’m meant to serve,” she says.

Building the frameworks behind the scenes

Ask Stephanie for her biggest win, and she points at work nobody saw. “Taking everything I’ve learned over so many years and building out my frameworks was a massive achievement,” she says. Twenty-five years of study became a path she can hand to someone, phase by phase.

She counts the smaller wins too, because she trained herself to look for them. “I’m most proud of every time I decided to keep going when I had no idea what to do next,” she says. “The times I took action in the face of doubt. My willingness to sit with uncomfortable emotions and keep doubling down on my vision.”

Its starts with identity

Her clients are people who are done settling for “good enough” and ready to build the life they actually want. She tells them the work starts with identity, ahead of timing, strategy, or circumstances.

It shapes the advice she gives founders, too. “Make sure whatever you’re pursuing is something you actually want,” she says. “I can’t tell you how many people I’ve coached that are fighting to build something that isn’t what they truly desire.”

She includes herself in that count. “I teach this stuff, and I fell into the same trap.”

"A business built for the sake of a business will never lead you to your deepest fulfillment," she says, "so give yourself an honest assessment the moment you sense something is off."

The Identity Reset and what comes next

The Identity Reset is built to dismantle the limiting beliefs keeping people stuck and reconnect them with the most authentic version of themselves. Take Your Power Back comes after it, helping clients reclaim control over their attention and channel that energy into their aligned vision. More courses will follow as she rolls out each phase.

Fellow Entreprenistas are launching this one with her. Becca Wright is helping her promote content across several platforms, Cait Howard and Amy Stone set her up with podcast opportunities, and Angela Acosta brought her on as a featured contributor writing monthly articles for The Gal Project.

Her advice to anyone who just joined is to stop trying to keep up with all of it. “Just jump in and start chatting. You’ll get everything you need and more,” she says.

Every week she teaches one tool from the framework, with The Weekly Build newsletter helping viewers implement what they learned. You can find her at toolkitunlocked.com, where The Identity Reset and The Weekly Build both live. She is off social media by choice, so her YouTube channel is where the weekly tools land.
