The Marketing Conversation No One Wants to Have
May 21, 2026
I am going to have a conversation with you that may not be popular. It may not feel aligned with everything you have been taught or told or shown within the online space. At the same time, as someone with a marketing degree, a long career in marketing and twenty years of experience leading brands, I am more than prepared to have it.
Here it is.
So much of what passes for personal brand marketing right now is not marketing at all. It is ego on a loudspeaker.
The me, me, me content. The "look at what I sold". The "I put something out there and everybody buys from me". The "I am making so much money, look at me". There is so much focus on the person behind the brand and so little focus on the people that brand is actually meant to serve.
This is an agitator for me. A deep one.
A personal brand is absolutely about you. Your voice, your essence, your genius, your wisdom. You are what makes a personal brand singular and worth following. But your marketing? Your marketing gets to serve the person on the other side of the screen. The potential client. The community member who has been quietly consuming your content and hoping you will finally say something that feels like it was written for her.
You do not need to infuse yourself into every single piece of marketing in order to make a sale, to scale, or to be a respected leader in your industry. What is actually happening when we do that is not confidence. It is ego that has quietly slid into the driver's seat. I say that with gentle eyes and without judgment, because I understand how it happens. The online space rewards performance. It has, for a long time, made it look like the loudest person in the room wins.
She does not.
The Shift That Is Already Happening
There was a moment when we were all swept up in the big numbers. The income screenshots. The sold out launches. The overnight success stories. It was exciting. It showed us what was possible and I love us for that chapter.
But that chapter has run its course.
What once felt aspirational now feels hollow. What once felt bold now reads as noise. The marketplace is not impressed the way it once was and the women who are still leading with ego and hype are finding that their audience is quietly, steadily, tuning out.
We as women hold a superpower that has nothing to do with how loudly we can proclaim our own success. It is our capacity for compassion. For genuine service. For the kind of humble, heart-led leadership that makes someone feel truly seen. That is not a weakness to move away from. It is the very thing that will set you apart in a marketplace that is increasingly crowded with performance.
Stop pushing it away. It is your greatest differentiator.
Show Your Face
The first and most immediate thing I want to call you into is face to camera content.
We are living in an AI saturated world where anyone can build a beautiful brand, write a compelling sales page, produce a polished grid and construct an entire persona without ever showing their face or speaking a word of their own truth. Anyone can do this now. Which means the one thing that cannot be replicated or manufactured is you. The way you speak. The way you move. The energy you carry. The values that come through when you are simply being yourself on camera.
When you hide behind beautiful graphics and I say this as someone whose graphics are genuinely beautiful and therefore very easy to hide behind, your audience experiences something they may not be able to name but they absolutely feel. They feel like you are unavailable. Like there is a wall between you and them that no amount of stunning design can replace.
My own team said it to me perfectly. When you do not show up on your stories, it is almost like you are so busy, business is closed. You are closed off to conversations.
The moment I show my face to camera, my messages light up. Every time. Without exception. You cannot argue with that data and I am not going to pretend otherwise simply because it is easier to produce a graphic than it is to press record.
If you have an online business, you have signed up for the online responsibilities. That includes showing up. That includes letting people see you, imperfect and present and real.
Reimagine Your Email Marketing
In 2025, I was bored by my own inbox. I was on dozens of email lists for market research purposes and what I found was a relentless stream of the same thing. Buy from me. I am launching. Look at what I have. Me, me, me, buy, buy, buy.
We have become lazy in our email marketing. Profoundly lazy. We send emails when we want something and go quiet when we do not. We have forgotten that email is not a sales channel. It is a relationship channel. It is your home base. It is the one place your community lives that cannot be taken from you overnight.
I learned this the hard way in 2022 when I lost my social media. My email list and my podcast literally saved my business. I didn't realize the insurance I had built for myself through these channels. If you are putting all of your energy into a social platform that could disappear tomorrow, that is not a strategy. That is a risk you are taking with everything you have built.
So I went back to the drawing board with my own email marketing. I researched what was working, what was not and I asked myself a simple question. What would I actually want to open on a Saturday morning with my second cup of coffee?
That question became the ICONic Capsule.
A condensed, miniature version of the magazine. Delivered on a Saturday, when the pace is slower and there is space to actually read and absorb something. Built entirely around the reader, not around me. An article that could expand her in her business or her lifestyle. A feature on a woman doing something extraordinary that she could find herself within. A glow up section because beautiful things bring me joy and when my energy is behind something, you feel it. A backstage pass into what I am personally working through, the behind the scenes moments I do not share anywhere else.
At no point in the ICONic Capsule am I talking about myself for the sake of talking about myself. Every single section exists to serve the woman reading it.
The result? We have more responses, more replies, more people reaching out about that email than anything we have ever sent in the history of this brand. We quadrupled our sales on our most recent launch, we have a 65% open rate and most of my clients come through email marketing.
When you build something you would genuinely want to receive, people receive it that way. It is not complicated. It is just rare.

Pick Up Your Microphone
Your authentic voice in the marketplace has never been more necessary or more powerful than it is right now.
I want you to sit with that.
In a world where anyone can generate content, build a persona, write in someone else's voice and manufacture an entire brand identity through artificial intelligence, the one thing that cannot be faked is your actual voice. The way you think. The stories only you have lived. The energy that comes through when you speak from genuine conviction and real experience.
The Iconic Podcast just celebrated six years and is a top rated show with over one million downloads. It has generated millions of dollars in revenue, from those who came to me through listening. People who did not know me signed on and paid in full for a year of private coaching within twenty four hours of discovering this podcast because they had listened long enough to know, with complete certainty, that I was their person.
They did not need a sales call. They did not need convincing. They needed time with my voice and the podcast gave them that.
I also want to dispel the myth that podcasting is too saturated to be worth starting. Most podcasts are not active. Most people who start a show do not stay consistent with it. What looks like saturation is mostly dead air, episodes that were published a few times and quietly abandoned. The space for a consistent, well led, genuinely valuable podcast is wide open.
If a podcast feels like too much right now, start with lives on your social platforms. Start with video content. Start somewhere that lets people hear your voice and see your face and feel your energy. That is the entry point to the kind of trust that converts without pressure and builds without hype.
What Sustainable Actually Looks Like
Become a multi millionaire because you have a community that cannot stop talking about you for how you make them feel, for the impact you have made in their lives, for the way your words have stayed with them long after they finished reading.
That is the kind of growth that lasts. That is the kind of brand that compounds over time rather than burning bright and fading. That is what it looks like to build something real.
Be the soft landing in a marketplace that is noisy and filtered and increasingly hard to trust. Be the one whose face they recognize, whose voice they know, whose emails they actually open. Be the leader who shows up not to be seen, but to genuinely serve.
Show your face. Nurture your list. Pick up your microphone.
You will thank yourself later.
