Anna Dornier Built Ascend Systems to Give Founders Freedom
July 23, 2026
Before Anna Dornier built businesses, she portioned bags of cheese curls into bowls and sold them to neighborhood kids from her front door. She didn't call it entrepreneurship at the time. She saw an opportunity and went for it, and that instinct never left her.
Anna Dornier is the founder of Ascend Systems, a marketing automation and AI consulting company that helps founders build systems to generate leads, nurture relationships, and grow without burning out. She spent more than a decade running a 6-figure fitness business first, where she learned how easily an owner becomes the bottleneck in her own company. A member of the Entreprenista League, she now helps other founders design their way out of that trap.
“At the heart of it, I believe businesses should create freedom, not another job.”
A decade in fitness, and a bottleneck she recognized
Anna studied animal science and management at UC Davis. She began her career as a research analyst before deciding she wanted more freedom and creativity than a corporate path offered. She moved into fitness and ran a successful business for over 10 years, learning sales, marketing, retention, operations, and leadership along the way. She also saw how many owners worked incredibly hard without the systems to support their growth.
Why she started Ascend Systems
What began as solving problems inside her own business became a business of its own. “I wanted the freedom to create something that reflected my values and allowed me to have a direct impact on people’s lives,” she says. She grew fascinated with automation, customer journeys, and operations, and turned that fascination into consulting.
Systems that give time back
Anna’s clients are service-based founders and growing businesses who've outgrown spreadsheets, sticky notes, and manual follow-up. Over the past year she has helped them put AI and automation to work in practical, approachable ways that improve lead follow-up and customer experience while protecting the personal connection their brands depend on. “It’s exciting to see business owners realize they don’t have to choose between growth and freedom,” she says.
Present over perfect
As a mother, Anna measures success by the life her business makes possible. “Being present is more important than being perfect,” she says. Her advice to founders is to stop waiting, because “clarity comes from taking action, not from overthinking.” She even built her own reflection tool along the way, an astrology app called The Oracle Within that she uses daily to think through timing and decisions.
What's next
Anna is focused on helping founders use AI in a way that feels human, intentional, and sustainable, reducing manual work without losing the personal touch. Her bigger vision is steady: businesses that support the life their owners actually want to live.
