Kayla Lassetter: Redefining Success and Innovation at Free Spirit Virtual Solutions

November 5, 2025

Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business

I’m Kayla Lassetter, creative strategist & founder of Free Spirit Virtual Solutions, a social media & content marketing studio

Who are your customers?

I work with ambitious service-based brands & founders that are great at what they do but tired of marketing feeling like a full-time job. They want strategy that feels good, sells smart, & gives them their time (& sanity) back.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

Before starting Free Spirit Virtual Solutions, I worked as a vault teller at Chase Bank and in the billing department for mental health and psychiatric practices.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

I took the leap to start my business in 2020 after scrolling TikTok one night and seeing a woman share how much she was earning as a virtual assistant. I remember thinking, “Wait… that’s literally what I do every day at my job—and I’m nowhere near that paycheck.” At the time, I was underpaid and working for people who didn’t value me, so I decided to bet on myself. I hired the coach from that video, launched my VA business, and quickly realized my true passion was social media and content strategy. By December 2021, I went full-time—and I’ve never looked back.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Not at all. Being an entrepreneur was never on my radar—I always thought it would be way too much work. I was perfectly content climbing the corporate ladder and assumed that was the “safe” path. I never imagined I’d be running my own business, but I’m so grateful I took the leap. It’s challenged me, stretched me, and turned into something far better than I could’ve planned for myself. As a first-generation entrepreneur from a family of non–risk takers, this is something I definitely never expected to do—but I’m so proud that I did.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced has been learning to fully bet on myself—especially when the people around me didn’t believe in what I was building. When I first started my business, I had family members telling me not to do it, to play it safe, to not be “stupid” and risk something stable for something uncertain. Some friends didn’t really support me either, which was honestly hard and confusing.

Entrepreneurship already feels lonely, but it hits differently when you feel like you’re walking that path completely alone. I had to teach myself how to have my own back and believe in my vision, even when no one else could see it yet. Looking back, I’m grateful for that season because it taught me self-trust on a level I’d never experienced before. That mindset shift changed everything—both in how I run my business and in how I show up for myself.

What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?

The accomplishment I’m most proud of is the life this business has allowed me to build. I get to work with incredible clients who feel more like friends and family—people I genuinely believe in and whose work I’m proud to help grow. Together, we’ve created meaningful, results-driven marketing that actually makes a difference in their businesses.

But beyond that, I’m proud of the freedom and flexibility I’ve created for myself. I get to do work that feels good, with people I love, on my own terms. That’s something I used to only dream about. This business has given me financial stability, creative fulfillment, and the ability to build a life that truly feels like mine—and that, to me, is the biggest accomplishment of all.

Do you have any recent wins from the last year that you'd like to celebrate with our community?

This past year has been full of wins I’m incredibly proud of. One of my clients launched a brand that was acquired just a little over a year after it debuted—which still blows my mind. The goal was never to sell the business; it was to build it. But through clear, strategic, and human-centered marketing, we positioned the brand so strongly that it naturally attracted serious buyer interest.

Beyond that, several of my clients have doubled their yearly revenue, hit record-breaking sales months, and reached milestones in weeks that used to take them months. Seeing my clients’ businesses grow and knowing I played a part in helping them reach those moments will never get old. Each of these wins reminds me why I love what I do: strategic, intentional marketing that helps small businesses create real, lasting results.

What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

Right now, I’m really focused on continuing to grow what I’ve built—partnering with incredible clients who have big visions and want me to be part of bringing them to life. I’m enjoying the season I’m in and letting the business evolve naturally, because I’ve learned that every pivot has led me somewhere better.  In the next few years, I’d love to possibly expand into mentorship—helping other creative entrepreneurs build businesses that feel good and grow sustainably. But overall, my goal is simple: to keep doing meaningful work, creating intentional partnerships, and letting Free Spirit Virtual Solutions grow at a pace that feels right.

What is your top productivity tip?

Plan your day before it starts—and put your phone in another room while you’re working. It sounds small, but it changes everything. One notification can turn into 30 minutes of scrolling, and suddenly an hour’s gone. I’ve learned that when I plan ahead and limit distractions, I get more done in less time and produce better work.

On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?

I’d be lying if I said I’ve figured out how to avoid burnout completely—I’m still learning. But I’ve gotten better at noticing the early signs. When I start feeling off, I pause and ask myself: am I neglecting my needs? How do I feel mentally? I’ve realized I have to take care of myself first to show up fully for my clients, my work, and my life.

What is your approach to work-life balance / integration?

Honestly, I don’t believe in a perfect work-life balance—it’s always shifting. Some weeks I take off Monday and Tuesday, other weeks I work through the weekend. I love that flexibility because it allows me to work in flow rather than on a rigid schedule. To me, balance isn’t about splitting time evenly—it’s about giving myself permission to create a rhythm that actually fits my life.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?

I wish I had known how much time and intention it really takes to get the most out of the Entreprenista community. I knew it wasn’t going to be a quick fix, but I didn’t fully realize how much consistency and genuine connection it takes to really grow here. It’s not just about joining—it’s about showing up, building relationships, and being intentional with your time. Once I leaned into that and started prioritizing connection over perfection, that’s when things started to click.

What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?

My favorite business tool is HoneyBook. I love how it keeps everything in one place—client communication, proposals, contracts, and payments. It makes the backend of my business feel seamless and elevated. I can send beautifully customized proposals, follow up with leads, and manage client projects all under one roof. It saves me time, keeps me organized, and helps me deliver a smooth experience for my clients from start to finish.

What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?

Give as much as you ask. Too often, people show up looking for support, referrals, or opportunities without offering value in return. The best connections come from genuine relationships, not transactions. When you pour into others, it always finds its way back to you. So don’t join just to get something out of it—join to be part of it.
