Your Nervous System is Your Body’s Bank Account: Have You Checked Your Balance?
Most high-achieving women are running their nervous system into chronic overdraft. Learn how your nervous system acts like your body’s bank account and how a simple audit can check your balance before it costs you everything.

You pick up your phone and get a notification that your bank account has been compromised. You log in and notice multiple fraudulent charges. Your stomach drops, and you go into panic mode. You call your bank immediately and do everything you need to do to address your financial crisis.
This scenario may have played out in your real life. You understand how quickly you have to kick into gear to resolve the problem because you know the devastating impact it’ll have on your life and business.
Now, imagine bringing that same urgency to care for your nervous system. Many of us wouldn't be experiencing what we are now: brain fog, lack of sleep, irritability, low energy, and other symptoms of a depleted nervous system.
Our nervous system sends us notifications, too, but we either dismiss them and forget to check back or we turn them off completely.
Why your nervous system matters
Our nervous system is our body's command center; it regulates sleep, mood, digestion, energy, and even our focus. Our nervous system is always playing in the background, supporting us through every transaction, meeting, and stressful event.
When it is balanced, you feel calm and restored, but when it is dysregulated, you feel wired, foggy, and reactive.
Most high-achieving women I work with are dysregulated. They are chronically activated, and this has become their new baseline.
You're making withdrawals without checking the balance
Every deadline, hard conversation, skipped meal, and broken night's sleep is a withdrawal to your nervous system, and it’s impacting your body's overall health bank account.
As a whole, women have become so good at multitasking and pushing themselves past their limits that they keep this rhythm going without checking how many “funds” their nervous system has left. We’ve mastered the withdrawal, but forget how to check our balance.
Your withdrawals compound
Chronic stress (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) doesn’t just add up; it creates compounding interest on ignored debt.
What seemed manageable in your 20s transforms into anxiety in your 30s, and then becomes disease in your 40s. We begin to wonder why we can’t handle the things we used to. It’s because the interest on our ignored “debt” in our nervous system has become too large to manage.
So many of the women I work with say, “I don’t know what happened… everything just hit me all of a sudden.” But it isn’t sudden; your body's buffering system can’t handle all the deficits.
Audit your body's “bank account”
Here’s where a lot of women miss the mark. It takes a few minutes to get honest with yourself and start taking stock of your withdrawals versus your deposits. For example:
- Sleep: Do you fall asleep easily and stay asleep?
- Energy: Are you running on steady fuel? Or are you dependent on caffeine or adrenaline?
- Mood: Do you feel like yourself? Or do you notice more irritability, mood swings, or anxiety?
Your body's good news
Your body is not broken. It is asking to be seen. If you notice your body is more overdrawn than balanced, it may be time to integrate daily practices to restore your balance.
As a CPA will tell you, good financial hygiene means being aware of your business's profits and losses. The same is true for your nervous system. Auditing your system can create a major shift in your health, business, and relationships.
