The fourth quarter is one of the most pivotal times of the year for many female founders as they prepare for greater demand in sales, increased client activity, and hitting budget and revenue targets for year-end.

For many female founders, this increased pressure and pace echo through their personal and family lives too. The busy Q4 holiday season also sees an increase in events and celebrations during December, with several weeks of celebrations with family, friends, colleagues, and clients alongside special end-of-year school and extracurricular events.

There is too much at stake in Q4 for a female founder to run their business on a collection of Post-it notes and a never-ending to-do list, so why would we expect the demands of our family celebrations to run successfully on anything less either?

A to-do list is not a strategy

The most beautiful color-coded to-do list can keep you busy during the holidays, but busy is different from being productive when it comes to getting results. A strategy is a decision-making filter that can help you establish priorities and allocate time and resources across the season. In its simplest form, it acts as a guide for you to decide which RSVPs to say yes to and which to politely decline. And that’s only the beginning of how it can help.

Starting early is a tactic, not a strategy

We think starting earlier is the answer, and it can help, but that is only part of the equation. An earlier start doesn’t provide direction; it is a tactic. Having a clear strategy guides you in prioritizing your time, decisions, and resources to align with your goals for the season. When you miss this connection and start early without a strategy, you may end up creating a longer runway that fills with more tasks, without achieving the results you wanted.

When starting later in the season to prepare for the holidays, strategy has an even greater impact. With your timeline limited, every move needs to focus on what is essential so you can maximize your time and effort to achieve the desired results without sacrificing enjoyment of the season.

The roll of tape that started it all

It took me several years and many seasons before realizing I needed more than a to-do list. In fact, it took me until 2 AM on a “very important eve in December,” when the last piece of tape snapped from its roll while a pile of gifts was still waiting to be wrapped. That's when I realized it was up to me to find a better way.

Using the strategic lens I relied on as a marketing director, I began to rethink my approach. After refining my perspective and tactics, a clear, repeatable system emerged, and it became Confetti Playbook Method™. A methodology that helps women manage their seasons and celebrations with more focus, so they can stay present and enjoy both the planning and the celebration itself.

Confetti Playbook Method™

  1. ‍Decide: Clarifies your priorities, parameters, and vision for the season you are creating.
  2. ‍Design: Identifies the overall direction, feeling, and style of the celebration experience.
  3. ‍Define: Bridges steps one and two to become an actionable plan using the Confetti Blueprint™.
  4. ‍Deliver: Aligns execution with tools to optimize logistics and enhance the before, during, and after an event experience.

Strategy protects capacity

Our capacity is shared across work and home during Q4. The increased demand for our attention is drawing from the same source. Applying a strategic lens to holiday season plans helps deliver a memorable season.  Strategy also helps us to allocate resources, delegate with intention, and streamline our approach so we can be more effective at work and present at home.
