Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business

Hi! I’m Svenja Lyon, founder of Lyon Creatives, a New Jersey-based design studio specializing in branding and Squarespace websites for women entrepreneurs. I help clients turn their vision into a brand that’s bold, clear, and true to them.

I work with service providers, product-based businesses, and anyone ready to move beyond the DIY phase. I’m based in Mount Olive, NJ, and love connecting with creative collaborators like podcast hosts, consultants, and agencies.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I worked in Marketing

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

What made me take the leap to start Lyon Creatives was becoming a mom. After my daughter was born in 2010, I knew I wanted more flexibility and creative freedom. With a background in marketing and a lifelong passion for design, starting my own studio felt like the natural next step—and a way to build something meaningful on my own terms.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?

The biggest challenge I’ve encountered has been standing out in a saturated industry, especially as a solo designer competing with larger agencies and low-cost design options. It’s taught me to lean into what makes Lyon Creatives unique—personal connection, strategic thinking, and high-touch design. I’ve learned that clients don’t just hire you for the work—they hire you for the experience, the trust, and the clarity you bring to their business. Staying true to that has helped me attract the right clients and build lasting relationships.

What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?

Together with another Womens Organization I created a book about women entrepreneurs. Not only was it a beautiful book and won a design award, it also made the featured women super happy. They got a free headshot and business spotlight in the book.

What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

What’s next for Lyon Creatives is growth—with heart and intention. Over the next few years, I’m focused on becoming the go-to design studio for women entrepreneurs and small businesses who are ready to elevate their branding and online presence. You can expect to see more high-impact client work, an expanded library of digital products and templates, and deeper community connections through workshops and creative collaborations. I’m also building systems to scale sustainably—so I can serve more clients while maintaining the personal, high-touch experience that sets Lyon Creatives apart.

What is your top productivity tip? 

I am listening to my favorite music and if I need a break I either walk the dogs or go for a run.

On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?

I run 2 marathons per year. That means that there is a lot of training involved. That training helps me to clear my head and just take time for myself.

What's the one app on your phone you absolutely cannot live without and why?

Strava :)

What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?

The Adobe Creative Suite. For me the Adobe products are the best.

What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?

Connect, connect, connect. Get out there and talk to others. Do not be in competition with others that are offering the same as you. Support, collaboration and lifting others up. There is enough for all of us.
