Dhara Singh on Storytelling Coaching and Helping Founders Turn Their Stories Into Sales
Dhara Singh is a journalist turned storytelling coach and advisor who helps founders transform their personal stories into powerful messaging that attracts ideal clients. Drawing from her background in investigative journalism and financial reporting, Dhara approaches brand storytelling through deep interviews and narrative discovery rather than traditional marketing tactics.
Through her Stories to Sales framework, Dhara works with founders to uncover the defining moments in their lives and translate those experiences into compelling content across social media, email, podcasts, speaking engagements, and PR opportunities. Her work focuses on helping entrepreneurs connect authentically with their audiences and turn meaningful stories into growth for their businesses.
Please share a brief introduction and your business:
I'm Dhara Singh, a journalist turned storytelling coach and advisor for founders. Rather than the lens of a marketer, I apply an investigative journalism lens to learn about a founder's life and help them weave storytelling into their messaging to draw ideal clients. For a founder who struggles to connect to turn prospects into buyers or share their story, I will interview them using my Stories to Sales to learn about their life and help them tell their story across socials, email, stages, PR/podcasts, and more.
Take us back to when you launched? What was your marketing strategy?
Surprisingly, it actually wasn't social media. I started with Upwork, then used Facebook groups, the masterminds and communities I was in. After the word started spreading, I started a social media presence and a few clients with larger followings who referred me to their communities. I had a previous business that did not take off, so initially no but then when I became in alignment with my true niche as a storyteller everything fell into place.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
I always loved performing, writing and being creative as a kid. I think entrepreneurship was a natural extension of the spark that lit that creative fire.
What accomplishments are you the most proud of to date in your business?
Working with some enterprise clients. It was the most valuable learning experience and an honor to work with some top CEOs. The standards are way higher, but the experience is very professional. You learn a lot.
What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
I just joined but I wish I did it sooner!
When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?
I hire freelancers on Upwork often and have had Vas for communities. I always ask about previous work samples.
What did you do before starting your own business?
I was a financial journalist and analyst
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
It started with me having a side hustle on Upwork and getting a huge kick from interviewing someone, connecting the dots in someone's life experience and rebranding them with their story so they could get into their dream graduate school. I loved that I got to wear an investigative journalism lens so much so I wondered how could I keep doing this? Eventually the dots connected and I found my first niche in life coaches.
Do you have any recent wins?
I batch recorded 11 episodes of the Stories to Sales podcast and we're launching in Feb so I'm excited. Have some special guests!
What's one app on your phone that you cannot live without?
WSJ. I love reading the stories and staying up to date.
Who are your customers?
Mostly service-based business owners such as coaches of various niches. However I've also had different clients in various financial fields as well as beauty.
What's your top productivity tip?
Use a project management board such as Trello and organize it like a calendar. Every task you complete drag it to a complete section.
What's your favorite business tool?
Trello (I'm a visual person)
How do you avoid burn-out?
I make sure I spend time with loved ones and do other creative things outside my business.
What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?
Follow your intuition.
After starting her business through Upwork and founder communities, Dhara Singh built a storytelling practice that blends investigative journalism with strategic messaging. Today, she helps founders uncover the narratives that set them apart and turn those stories into powerful tools for connection and conversion.
